Eastwood MSP, Jackson Carlaw is calling for progress to be made on long-awaited broadband upgrades in part of Giffnock.
Local homes at Egidia Avenue, Eglinton Drive, Winton Avenue, Arran Drive, Berryhill Road leading to Maryville Avenue and two blocks of flats at Hutchison Court are without access to full fibre broadband.
Each of these residential areas is located off Fenwick Road.
CityFibre has built it’s full fibre network within the local area but the organisation has been unable to expand it’s rollout to a number of streets because they are located on private roads with the business first needing to secure necessary permissions.
Work on securing the permissions started in 2023.
Mr Carlaw previously met with CityFibre to discuss the issue and he has made further representations to the business to highlight the importance of the broadband upgrades for local residents.
In response to a recent representation from the Eastwood MSP, CityFibre set out that most of the permissions are in place but the company now needs to revisit the commercial case for extending the full fibre broadband to the homes located on private roads.
There is currently no timescale for completing the rollout.
Scottish Conservative MSP for Eastwood, Jackson Carlaw said:
“Local residents at Egidia Avenue, Eglinton Drive and other neighbouring streets have missed out on access to the full fibre broadband for a considerable period and there appears to be little immediate prospect of a resolution.
“Constituents have contacted me to highlight that the ongoing absence of the upgrades means they are continually experiencing poor internet connection and with significant dismay that the rollout is yet to reach their home.
“The most recent correspondence issued to me by CityFibre suggests that there is now serious uncertainty about whether the streets will be connected to it’s full fibre broadband network and this is a major concern.
“I have progressed further representation to CityFibre to express my frustration that this matter is yet to be resolved and to stress the importance of making the full fibre broadband available to the streets on private roads in Giffnock.”
