Jackson Carlaw has been re-selected as the Scottish Conservative and Unionist candidate to contest the Eastwood constituency at next year’s Scottish Parliament Election.
Mr Carlaw was first elected as the constituency MSP for Eastwood in May 2016 and he held the seat at the Holyrood Election in May 2021.
Mr Carlaw has campaigned on a range of local issues such as retaining Eastwood as a distinct constituency at future Scottish Parliament Elections and opposing proposals from East Renfrewshire Council to introduce charging for non-residential care services.
The next Scottish Parliament Election will take place on Thursday 7th May 2026.
Scottish Conservative MSP for Eastwood, Jackson Carlaw said:
“Throughout my time as the MSP for Eastwood, I have sought to be a local champion for the constituency and to stand up for the best interests of our communities.
“I am delighted to have the opportunity to contest the constituency once again and I will do everything possible to persuade local people to re-elect me as their MSP.
“All of Eastwood’s local communities belong together in the same parliamentary seat and I campaigned strongly for the constituency to be retained.
“The initial Boundaries Scotland proposals to dismantle the constituency were subsequently abandoned and Eastwood remains a distinct geography in it’s own right.
“Working jointly with my Conservative Councillor colleagues, we will continue to oppose Labour and the SNP’s plans to bring in punitive charges for non-residential care services next April and with vulnerable people potentially losing a large portion of their income.
“The UK Labour Government has disgracefully removed winter fuel payments for almost 18,000 pensioners in East Renfrewshire and their hike to employers national insurance contributions threatens the viability of local organisations such as businesses, care homes and charities.
“Hard working people continue to pay higher levels of income tax because of SNP decision-making and the Scottish Government’s ongoing derisory treatment of local authorities has resulted in an 8 percent council tax increase for Eastwood residents in this financial year.
“Labour and the SNP have failed local people and Scottish Conservatives are the only credible alternative to both of these parties in Eastwood.”
