New bus timetables for the 4/4A corridor in Eastwood have significantly improved the reliability of services.
Towards the end of April, First Glasgow implemented the revised timetables with the objective of making the routes more dependable for commuters.
Before the changes were introduced, the bus company conceded in an e-mail to local MSP, Jackson Carlaw that the performance of the services had fallen below the standards rightly expected by passengers.
In a recent letter to Mr Carlaw, First Glasgow confirmed that the amended timetables have resulted in considerably more services running on time with a 32.8 percent improvement in punctuality for the 4A.
On the Number 4 service, there has been a 27.5 percent punctuality improvement.
The improvements on the two Eastwood routes are notably better than for the wider Glasgow region as a whole with punctuality increasing on average by 13.5 percent.
Mr Carlaw has persistently contacted First Glasgow to raise serious concerns about the high number of cancellations and delayed services on the 4/4A corridor and called on the bus company to deliver improvements for local residents.
The 4A provides essential public transport for the village of Eaglesham.
The Number 4 service stops at various locations in Eastwood including Mearns Cross and Clarkston Toll.
Scottish Conservative MSP for Eastwood, Jackson Carlaw said:
“Many of my constituents in Eastwood are dependent on First Glasgow delivering reliable 4 and 4A services.
“For a very long period of time, there has been major issues with delays or buses not turning up at all and I made clear that action was needed to start turning this unacceptable situation around.
“Eaglesham is poorly served by public transport links with the village not having a train station and a reliable 4A service is critical for the day-to-day lives of people who are resident in this part of Eastwood.
“The stated improvements in the reliability of 4 and 4A services is a very welcome development.
“The key aim of revising the timetables was to deliver a more reliable bus network for passengers and the punctuality improvements reported by First Glasgow clearly represents a significant enhancement to local service provision.
“It is important for the recent punctuality improvements to be maintained and if possible, bettered in the coming weeks and months.”
