A new disabled parking space is to be introduced near a local primary school in East Renfrewshire.
The parking bay will be put in place on Clarkston Road and at a short distance from the entrance to Netherlee Primary School.
The intention of installing the new space is to support parents whose children have a disability in accessing the school safely.
Eastwood MSP, Jackson Carlaw contacted East Renfrewshire Council to ask for the local authority to introduce new on-street disabled parking provision near the entrance to the primary school on Clarkston Road.
The council responded to advise that the proposal for new disabled parking provision had been carefully assessed and approved.
The local authority’s lining contractor has been tasked with taking forward the work to establish the new disabled parking space and paint the required on-road markings.
The contractor is currently having to progress a backlog of scheduled works and it is anticipated to be a timescale of around eight weeks before the programme is complete.
The council has provided a map of the chosen location for the new disabled parking bay and it is to be situated across from an electrical sub-station that is next to the school.
Scottish Conservative MSP for Eastwood, Jackson Carlaw said:
“From canvassing local homes in Netherlee to speak with constituents directly about any issues of concern, it was brought to my attention that there were no on-street disabled parking spaces in close proximity to the primary school on Clarkston Road.
“I was very concerned to learn about the absence of appropriate parking provision to help parents whose children are living with a disability to safety arrive at school in the morning and leave in the afternoon.
“I raised the matter directly with the council and I was delighted to receive confirmation that a new disabled parking bay would be put in place.
“The contractor’s backlog of works means the bay will not be introduced imminently but it is important for the disabled parking space to be in place at the earliest possible opportunity.”
