A new disabled parking bay has been put in place near one of the entrances to Netherlee Primary School in East Renfrewshire.
The space has been introduced to help parents, whose children are living with a disability, to access and leave the school safely.
Eastwood MSP, Jackson Carlaw wrote to the local council in September to express concerns that there was no on-street disabled parking provision in close proximity to the school’s entrance on Clarkston Road and he asked for the local authority to investigate the issue.
The council responded to advise that arrangements would now be made to introduce a new disabled parking bay near Netherlee Primary’s entrance on the main road and a lining contractor had been instructed to proceed with the work.
A backlog of work and poor weather impacted the timescale for installing the disabled parking bay but it was finally introduced in recent weeks.
The space has been introduced across from an electrical sub-station that is positioned next to the school’s entrance and it is a short distance from the nearby shops and hospitality businesses on Clarkston Road.
Scottish Conservative MSP for Eastwood, Jackson Carlaw said:
“I was frustrated to learn that there was a complete absence of on-street disabled parking provision in close proximity to Netherlee Primary School’s entrance on Clarkston Road and this matter had to be addressed.
“I contacted East Renfrewshire Council to ask for a review of the issue and the local authority confirmed that a new disabled parking space would be introduced on the main road.
“The on-street space will provide additional support for parents whose children are living with a disability in arriving at school safely in the morning and leaving in the afternoon.
“It is good news that the planned disabled parking space at the entrance to Netherlee Primary on Clarkston Road has now been put in place.”
