A new early morning bus service from Monday to Friday has been added to a revised First Glasgow timetable for Newton Mearns.
The first bus for the Number 38 service is now departing from Harvie Avenue at 05.48 and Mearns Cross at 05.58.
From Sunday 20th April, First Glasgow introduced new timetables for a range of it’s bus routes including the Number 38 service.
As part of the changes, it emerged that the timing of the first morning service was now considerably later compared with the previous timetable.
Eastwood MSP, Jackson Carlaw contacted First Glasgow to request a review of the issue and for the company to introduce an additional morning service on the 38.
First Glasgow sent an initial response to Mr Carlaw informing him that the timing of the first morning bus would be reviewed and then followed up to confirm the introduction of the 05.48 service at Harvie Avenue.
The service will arrive at Hope Street in Glasgow City Centre around 6.30am.
Two years ago, Mr Carlaw opposed a previous attempt to remove night bus services for Eastwood including Newton Mearns.
The issue was resolved for Newton Mearns as the service was retained with stops at Mearns Cross and Greenfarm Road.
Scottish Conservative MSP for Eastwood, Jackson Carlaw said:
“There have been serious problems with the reliability of services across Eastwood for years and uncertainty over the continuation of some routes including the night bus where a positive outcome was ultimately delivered for Newton Mearns in previous years.
“It was a frustration that the new timetable published by First Glasgow for the Number 38 reduced the frequency of morning services at the Harvie Avenue and Mearns Cross stops.
“I made representation to the company to express concerns and I am pleased that First Glasgow has put in place an additional early morning bus for the revised Newton Mearns service.
“The new service will support local people who need to join early morning trains from Central or Queen Street stations for onward travel to Edinburgh and other destinations.”
