First Glasgow is to put in place a new timetable on the 4/4A bus corridor for East Renfrewshire.
The bus company has made the decision to introduce the amended timetable because of ongoing disruption to services and to better reflect traffic conditions on the route.
The revised timetable will start from Sunday 20th April.
The timetable will be uploaded to First Glasgow’s website closer to the implementation date and bus stop information will also be updated.
In response to representations from Eastwood MSP, Jackson Carlaw about significant delays and cancellations to Eaglesham services, First Glasgow conceded that the performance of the 4A has been below the standards that passengers rightly expect.
The intention of introducing the new timetable is to provide a more reliable service for bus users.
The frequency of the service will remain unchanged but the company is allocating additional running time for the revised timetable and it is believed that this change will make the 4/4A route more dependable.
Scottish Conservative MSP for Eastwood, Jackson Carlaw said:
“In recent months, I have been contacted by an increasing number of constituents about what appears to be a further significant decline in the performance and reliability of bus services for Eaglesham.
“The village of Eaglesham is not served by a local train station and this means it is even more important for my constituents to have dependable bus services.
“Regrettably, the 4A has failed to provide reliable public transport for residents in Eaglesham on far too many occasions and the ongoing difficulties have to be addressed to bring about an improvement in service delivery.
“I have made multiple representations to First Glasgow to stress the need for the company to review the 4A service and take steps to make it more dependable.
“Whilst the revised timetable is unlikely to be a silver bullet for all of the challenges experienced with the 4A, it is important that the changes to take effect in April and in accordance with road traffic conditions can provide a more reliable service for Eaglesham.
“The performance of the 4A and how to enhance the service must be continually reviewed.”
